Life is too short to see with cloudy vision
Cataracts are the clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye which reduces your vision. The most common cause is aging. Other causes include diseases such as diabetes, smoking, use of alcohol or steroids, and prolonged sun exposure. Some cataracts are hereditary while others are caused by injury, radiation, or medications.
Over time, the lens becomes cloudy and may require a replacement of the normal lens with a clear artificial lens. After a cataract develops, changes in your glasses may help, however, if your vision is significantly reduced, the cataract may need to be removed by surgery and replaced with a clear implant.
Occasionally a cataract may become “too old” causing severe glaucoma which can permanently damage the eye. Waiting too long for surgery increases the risk of complications at cataract removal.
